So What Exactly is Blue Ray Technology All About?
Thursday, February 7th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedEvery so often we appear to be experiencing big breakthroughs in technological advance. At times it can be difficult for us to try and keep up with what is going on as technogolgy takes great strides away from where we are currently at. At present the technology known as Blue ray has been thrust into the public domain and learning exactly what is blue ray technology enables us consumers to keep up to speed with all the changes going on in the home entertainment world.
Explaining What Is Blue Ray Technology
For a lot of us, sitting at home watching a movie meant putting in a video tape. Since then technology has advanced into dvd players and the movies we experience meant a much better and sharper quality culminating in greater enjoyment. Currently a new waive of technology has emerged in the form of Blue ray technology.
Finding out what is Blue ray technology will include learning about the differences between Blue ray technology and the current mass marketed DVD systems. Blue ray technology has now been developing for many years, going back to the mid 1990’s when HDTV’s were becoming more common for consumers to buy. An advance in technology was required that could enable us to record and play back the these high definition recordings. Blue ray technology came about to fill this gap.
So just what is blue ray technology and what differences are there from the standard DVD? Blue ray technology enables far greater storage of information over the traditional DVD, up to 5 times more is available on a Blue ray disc. The Blue ray discs use a blue ray laser to read the information where as the other DVD’s use a red laser.
Blue laser wave lengths are shorter therefore allowing for a lot more storage to be used. To start with this caused problems, as the discs were easier to scratch. The case in which the disc was stored needed to be more durable and was somewhat bulky. Technological advancements in polymer coating the discs has resolved this issue and we no longer see these early bigger containers.
A lot of companies have a stake in developing the next tranche of cutting edge technologies and it is these companies that are currently looking into both HD DVD and blue ray technology. Fighting is currently going on between these large corporates as to the technology that should be utilised, causing rifts in the format that should be used. Even movie compaines cannot decide on which of the available technologies they should run with. This could lead to the comsumer having to have both types of player in order to what all the films they want to watch. Both blue ray and the hd dvd players continue to improve. All said and done, the consumer may well discover that they enjoy both both Blue ray and HD DVD players and both may turn out equally successful with their respective markets. Learning about what is Blue ray technology will help us, as consumers, grasp an understanding as to what is involved in this new evolving technology.
